Welcome to the Neffsville Fire Company Live-in page. The Neffsville Fire Company is part of Manheim Township Fire Rescue. Our Company is annually one of the county’s busiest, responding to an average of 900+calls; a successful component to this is the live-in program. This page will give you an insight of information pertaining to the program.
This program is designed for firefighters to utilize the fire company as their full-time residence, allowing for a quick and professional fire department response. In exchange for free living accommodations and several other perks, the live-in members are responsible for responding to emergency calls, performing station duties, helping with fundraisers and participating in training.
We currently operate a 2011 Pierce Arrow XT Engine (Suppression), a 2008 Sutphen Engine (Rescue/Suppression), a 2012 Peterbuilt Chassis/Pierce Heavy Duty Rescue Style Body Special Operations Squad, 2013 Peterbuilt Chassis/Pierce Body 3000 Gallon Tanker, a 2006 Ford F550 Super Crew Squad/QRS, a 2006 BigTex Foam Trailer, and a 2015 Ford Expedition Command Vehicle.
Neffsville Volunteers provide fire suppression, rescue/extrication, hazmat support and first responder EMS services to the community. Our First-due response area is comprised of the northern portion of Manheim Township as well as a part of Penn Township. In addition we provide mutual aid response to 6 surrounding municipalities. Also, select members serve on 3 county response teams to include, the Lancaster County HazMat Team, Lancaster County Rescue Task Force, and the Lancaster County Foam Task Force.
The Live-In program gives members great exposure to company level, state level and national level training opportunities at no cost. Neffsville covers all costs including registration, travel, lodging and other associated costs.
In addition to cost-free living, Neffsville annually budgets money for college reimbursement. This program is funded through money received from the Department of Homeland Security annually through a SAFER Act grant. The Neffsville Fire Company is only a short commute to several area post-secondary schools, including; Millersville University, Franklin & Marshall College, Elizabethtown College, Harrisburg Area Community College, Lancaster Bible College, Thaddeus Stevens Tech, Lancaster General Nursing & Health Sciences, Pennsylvania Institute of Art & Design, York Technical Institute and several others.
Neffsville's Live-In Program also caters to participants with an interest in career fire and EMS service employment. The Health & Safety Committee oversees the company’s physical training program including entry-level physicals for new members. The department pays annually for insurance and death benefit coverage for every member. This is in addition to the workers compensation provided by Manheim Township. After a member passes a 90 day probation period they will also receive a free gym membership to a local gym.
